Why We Require Once a Day Visits for Cats

Occasionally we will get a call from a prospective client requesting that we visit their cat(s) just once every other day (sometimes even longer).  When we explain that it is our policy to visit cats a minimum of once every 24 hours, sometimes people are surprised.
While some believe that cats are not social creatures, this is definitely not the case.  Some cats may not show it in the same way that dogs do but they really do enjoy human companionship.  They are also very clean animals & should have their litter boxes cleaned every day.  If not, they may decide to go on rugs or furniture while you are away.
Their health can also be a major concern if your cat isn’t seen every day.  Their eating, drinking and elimination habits should be monitored closely while you are gone.  And you never know
when they may eat something that they shouldn’t.  Once a day visits help to avoid these issues.
Here are just a few things we have encountered while cat sitting:
  • Cats opening cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom
  • Cats locked in rooms by a cleaning crew without access to food & water
  • Cat that jumped on the gas range to play with knobs & turned gas on
  • Cats closed in bedrooms by clients leaving in a hurry with no access to food or water
  • Cat that ate a plant & got sick
  • Cat stuck behind refrigerator
  • Cat with claws stuck in bedspread unable to remove himself
  • Cat who shut the door to the closet where his litter box was kept
These are just a few of the many ways your cat can get into trouble in a hurry!  Your pet’s health, happiness & safety our greatest priority and why we require once a day cat visits.
